When we opened the doors of our tiny restaurant in December 2006, our goal was to make Piccino as welcoming as the home of a close friend, our food as simple and beautifully executed as possible. We"re honored that Piccino became a thriving hub of the community. And in May of 2011 we moved from our original space into a new home (dubbed The Yellow Building) on the corner of 22nd & Minnesota Streets, which we share with our friends MAC (Modern Appealing Clothing), and DIG wine shop.
Our menu still features the classic and seasonally driven thin-crust pizzas and polpette (Tuscan-style pork and beef meatballs) Piccino is known for; our salads and soups use the finest organic produce sourced directly from small local farms. Piccino's menu has expanded to include more small starter plates, house-made pastas, contorni (vegetable sides), and special entrees of meat, fish, or poultry. Seasonal desserts and expertly made coffee complete our daily offerings.

"What really stands out at this restaurant is the healthy options that they offer, and I could be wrong -- doubt it -- but believe they make everything there. From the pasta, to the bread, to the dessert. That's probably why I like it so much. The home-cooking style is always a winner for me. I had the pasta, and it was delicious. The pizza was the last course I had, and it was the perfect 'entree' for lunch. They have some beer, but a lot of wine options. It's Italian, what do you expect. The staff was friendly. The service was good. A little slow all things considering it was around 2:00 p.m., and it wasn't crowded. I suppose it didn't matter because we really enjoyed the food. I would recommend this place.

"I'm so happy they are on Open Table because it is our go-to dining spot. Casual, contemporary and very fresh and well-executed dishes make this a spot to grab some dinner or linger over lunch--we've done both. I love their wines by the glass and the staff is able to talk about them and will pour tastes to help you make the right decision. We love everything on the menu. We start with salads. Order pastas. Sometimes we'll share an entree. We alway split a pizza. And we never miss dessert. It is such a comfortable, hip San Francisco experience."

"The only reason this is not a 4-star overall review is the relative value of the dining experience at Piccino: the food is carefully prepared, always interesting, and (in the case of the pizzas) memorable. But given the informal atmosphere, communal tables and neighborhood-casual spirit, the price of everything on the a la carte dinner menu (from the $3 tiny plate of crackers to $6 small dish of beans to $30 secondi (protein) courses) means that a modest meal with a glass of wine will set you back about $60/person. That said, the preparations are sparkling contemporary renditions of northern Italian cuisine.Extensive wine selections including by the glass."

Service was very good, considering a full house and the fact that we were chatting, and not attending too closely to the menu or deciding on our orders.

"Fantastic food, and attentive wait staff. Highly recommend. The reason why we rate the ambiance poorly is because many of the tables are really close to each other, like you wouldn't have to stretch out your arm to eat from your neighbor's plate close. On top of the packed tables, we made a special request to sit by a window and they sat us in the seat which was exactly the furthest table away from a window that you could possibly be (no really, we spent 5 minutes trying to find another table further). We understand you can't always get what you want, but they sat us right after seating another two-top directly next to a window. All-in-all I'd still eat there again, but I'd get a reservation and ask for a specific table (and wait for it)"

"Dining with Puccino is always excellent. This occasion was a delight. Location is off beat and convenient. Food was fresh and well executed. My husband always ordered the daily pizza with an egg. I ordered the beef and pork polette. Excellent, light and full of flavor! My daughters ordered the clams mussels, quail tortellini and the goat cheese panini. Everything was perfect. The asparagus starter was delicate and so fresh! Nice wine list. Desserts were great too. Can't wait to return again!"

"Have always loved this neighborhood gem but a change of chef and staff in the kitchen has resulted in a change in atmosphere. Our last visit did not seem as satisfactory as previous ones. Indifferent staff, some unmemorable dishes and a general unfriendly feel, none of which existed in the past, lessen the charm of this place. Will give it another shot as it is in our neighborhood, and will hope for a better experience in the future."

"Piccino is a decent neighborhood restaurant but doesn't rise to the level of great. This was our third time. Service was friendly but inconsistent. We waited for our table for some time despite our reservation, and our server was clearly stretched thin. Food is fine and reasonably priced. Pizzas were better than pastas."

"I gave Piccino an overall rating of 4 stars because the food and the ambiance of the restaurant was absolutely amazing. What prevented me from giving it that 5th star was our waiter. He was very rude and had a major attitude. He looked like he really didn't want to be there. He spoke so fast and low I couldn't make out what the specials were. When my boyfriend and I finished ordering he just kind of stood there looking at us like he couldn't believe we didn't order more food. Everyone else we encountered at the restaurant from the hostess to the person who refilled our water were very nice and welcoming it was just this one guy who just made the experience uncomfortable. If the food wasn't so delicious I would have walked out."

"Once again the meal was delicious, the service friendly and efficient, and the setting pleasing. The wines are interesting and reasonable. The combinations of flavors and textures in the food are wonderful. The ingredients are fresh and often local. I look forward to trying it for dinner sometime as I've only been for lunch."

"Great food. Great service. Totally rude hostess. We called and said we were going to be 5 minutes late. She was totally rude and insisted she couldn't accomodate us because the reservations were booked for the entire night. We went on Open Table and there were open reservations 15 and 30 minutes after our initial reservation, so we just took one of those. She put a bad taste in our mouths--good thing the food fixed that."

"There is genius in the kitchen here. Since coming for dinner 2 weeks ago, I've been dreaming of the food I was served, so I took a friend. We agreed that every bite was just wonderful - an imaginative, but never gimmick-y, combination of flavors and textures, expertly prepared and beautifully presented. Midway through his plate of pappardelle with mussels my guest asked, why is it that you can give a tomato to one person and get red sauce and from another person you get a revelation? The food at Piccino is a revelation. That said, unlike the major "arm and a leg" restaurants, there is a sense of lightness and fun in the decor and the staff. I love this place. (While I wouldn't describe it as kid-friendly, there have been lots of children.)"

"I love this place. Every pizza is wonderful, the sesame crackers hard to resist and the burrata salad as well as beet salad were outstanding. I recommend family style dining so you can taste more dishes.
The kitchen is open and it is fun to watch them prepare the plates.

"It was very good. Seemed the wait person was not qiuite there, but was pleasant enough. We enjoyed our pizza and salad. It is a really nice space. There were were lots of too cool for school peeps, but we still enjoyed our lunch. I will go back, but i do live half a block from pizzeria delfina and that sets the bar for me. I will say that it is 10x easier to park near piccino. I love dogpatch-- so it is great to have a place that good over there.
