Walnut Creek Yacht Club
Ellen McCarty and Kevin Weinberg opened the Walnut Creek Yacht Club in May of 1997 with the mission of bringing the finest and freshest from the sea to Walnut Creek. Why do we call ourselves a yacht club? Because we want to bring the atmosphere of a day on the Bay to landlocked Walnut Creek. We want our guests to feel comfortable, relaxed, and welcomed. Our décor includes many beautiful nautical touches: teak, mahogany, stainless steel, and even an authentic jib which was a gift to Kevin from the America’s Cup Defender, Alinghi. In January of 2008 we completed an extensive remodel, expanding the restaurant by twenty-five percent, and adding an oyster bar. We have been voted Best Seafood Restaurant in the East Bay by Diablo Magazine for the last 11 years, and have won numerous other awards, including Best Chef, Best Bartender, and Best Sommelier. We have a full bar, and a Wine Spectator Award winning wine list.

"Medicore food, small portions for the prices. The two crab cakes for $14 were bland and small. The $26 crab louie was disappointing - the lettuce looked like the cheapest portion of a head of iceburg lettuce. Service was fine. There are too many nice places in Walnut Creek - the Yacht Club needs to step it up."

"We eat here often and it is our favorite place. The oysters are the best. They are always the freshest and served at the perfect temperature. The servers are all terrific and make us feel welcome. Now if you are looking for fancy decor and a quiet place, this is not the right place for you! For great food and drink, hurry! Actually, the back patio is much quieter, so try that if noise bothers you. My husband had the scallop and mushroom fettuccini which he loves. I had the ahi, mâché and jicama salad which is a smaller portion and perfect for me following lots of oysters. For dessert, my husband just can't resist the brownie with ice cream. Ok, I helped!"

"I made reservations for 7pm. The hostess was very pleasant, our server was excellent. The oysters were incredible. We had entrees too, and a bottle of wine as well. The food and wine as a whole was fantastic. I definitely give the yacht club 5 stars, and will be recommending this place. Well done!"

"The Walnut Creek Yacht Club was was great.... I had pre ordered lobsters for mothers day. Fresh from Main and cooked to perfection.We sat in on open aired room that gave the feeling of private dinning. "Every time we walk by the this place is packed and everyone seems to be having a great time. Now we know why. The food and service are outstanding. Very fresh delicious seafood is the star here and they have the best Lobster Mac and Cheese--with pancetta--I have ever had. And the service is outstanding. The entire staff from the hostesses who great you--to the servers, server assistants, runners and managers are all working hard to make sure your experience is a good one. They are all genuine, efficient and friendly. And they know their stuff--great wine and food recommendations. Between the food and our server Joelle it was the best restaurant experience we've had since we moved to the Bay Area. It is not trendy but boy is it good."

"Not sure if I will return, even though repeat customer. This place is over-priced for WC and the acoustics are extremely poor. The tables are way too close together and still had to raise voice to have normal conversation. I have reviewed this place before and services continues to be questionable, really!"

"Always the freshest oysters here. I try to eat here at least once a week for my oyster fix. It doesn't hurt either that the wait staff is super friendly and efficient...not to mention the bartender who makes a dynamite Manhattan, complete wit brandied cherries...not that maraschino stuff."

"We brought our friends from out of town for a seafood dinner. I told the hostess we have 2 toddlers and asked for a table a bit out of the way. She offered us a private area where we comfortably ate and did not have to worry about our kids bothering the other patrons. It took a lot if stress off our dinner. Our wait staff were very attentive and kind. We had a lovely experience"

"Fantastic seafood expertly prepared and presented. I had the special mahi mahi wrapped in a banana leaf with Yucatan spices. I would have given the restaurant a better rating is it had not been for the slow service. It is a busy place and I think you need to be prepared to wait for your meal when the kitchen gets behind."

"We are regulars at the Yacht Club but this time was incredibly disappointing. We had a waitress who was below sub-par. Our whole section was pretty frustrated with having to wait and wait for her. And then there was these strange comments she would make to us. I'm not sure if she was trying to be funny but it came off as incredibly rude and emphasized poor customer service. Generally speaking the Yacht Club has outstanding customer service. All of the bus boys know us as well as the veteran waiters. If we were to get seated in her section again, I think we'd be better off going somewhere else for dinner."

"We went to celebrate our anniversary because we have like the food there on previous occasions. It was Friday night and crowded and so noisy that we could barely communicate with each other. Anniversary dinner and we couldn't even talk. We had a starter of Manila Clams in a wonderful sauce, and then we had our entrees. I had halibut and my wife had scallops. Again, good food, but we could barely tell each other how good. A starter and entrees, that's all, but it took two hours! So...get this picture: two hours on our anniversary and we couldn't have much conversation. We wanted to have dessert, but we left because we couldn't take the noise any more. Set up a table next to the freeway, it couldn't be worse!"

"It had been a while since my husband and I had visited this restaurant but thought we would check it out during Walnut Creek Restaurant Week. It was the perfect choice--informal atmosphere with a comfortable table. All the choices on the special 3-course menu were delicious. The cocktails and wine were also winners i.e., the Coral Chardonnay offered at the special price of $5.00 per glass was a nice touch. Our waitress was friendly but never hovered...and each dish was delivered at the right time--never rushed. We look forward to returning soon."

"This is my FAVORITE restaurant in Walnut Creek! Fish...any way you want it. Fresh fresh fresh. Excellent raw bar. Way too much fun ADULT bar scene...lots of yachties and sailing folks. And landlubbers, like me and my friends who always sit at "my table" (love to Ellen and staff!), and have our frequent "girlfriend" dinners.
Start off with a specialty cocktail, some raw oysters, and chat for a bit. Then order YOUR favorite fish, just the way you like it. Oh fer gawd's sake, be sure to get that delicious side dish...au gratin potatoes. (hey, you saved carbs on eating fish.)

Our first time to eat there was the day before St Patrick's Day (3/16) for a delightful lunch. With the Irish menu and attentive table service, we really enjoyed the dining experience. We will definitely return sometime in the near future to try more of the seafood.

"We had 7:45 pm reservations on a Saturday night. The food was good but the restaurant was very, very loud and the service was marginal. It was our first time at the restaurant. It felt like a cafeteria. Walnuct Creek has many very good dinner restaurants I would skip it for dinner if you want to talk to your dinner partner."

"The Yacht Club is an active bar and restaurant , yet the attention to service is high. The oyster bar is excellent. The food is always delicious. I overheard one waitress talking to a college student who was looking for a summer job. The waitress went on about what a great place it was to work and how well the staff is treated. "After all the hype I've heard about the Yacht Club over the years, I finally booked a reservation with 4 out of town guests for dinner on a Monday evening. First off, the service was very good, attentive without being overbearing. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the food. The clam chowder was good, the grilled prawns were average at best and the recommended au gratin potatoes were probably the worst I've ever tasted. I can't say eaten because after 2 small bites, I didn't take another bite of the potatoes. None of my guests were overly impressed either. Bummer!"

"I have heard great reviews from this restaurant but we were disappointed.
They ran out of a few things we usually get when we go out to eat. For example, I love a Kettle One Vodka Martini and they were out of that Vodka. Restaurant was very loud and the tables were very close together."

"We went to the Yacht Club for a special occasion and the staff could not be friendlier or more hospitable. They really made the night something special and seemed genuinely interested in whether we were having a great time. The food was fantastic - especially the creme brulee which was the best I've ever eaten (and I'm a real creme brulee fanatic!) The chef even made a point of making sure that I knew which foods were gluten free - so many chefs act like food allergies are done just to annoy them! But this one didn't, he was extremely gracious and solicitous. Overall I couldn't say enough great stuff about the WC Yacht Club!"

Our table was directly across from the oyster bar and the 3 vents blew very cold air on us throughout the meal, which was somewhat unpleasant. "Food was really, really good. I had scallops, which are touchy, but they were perfectly prepared and very tender. I like the fact that vegetables are on the menu aside from salad! We had to wait a bit for our waitperson to take our order and for the bill - long enough to notice but not long enough to become annoying. I'll be back!"
